Weber competes in Level 1 meet

Wednesday, December 23, 2009
WICHITA, Kan. -- Allison Weber was the lone member of the Heart of America Swim Club to compete in the Missouri Valley Midwest Level 1 Championships, Dec. 11-13 at Wichita, Kan.

The Marshall 10-year-old finished in the top 12 in four of her seven events, with her highest finish being eighth in the 100-yard butterfly (1:23.06) -- although her preliminary time (1:21.57) was better, with a time which qualified for the Division I Championships in March.

Weber was also ninth in the 200 freestyle (2:27.52) and 10th in the 200 individual medley (2:48.01), likewise posting D-I times.

Weber came in 11th in the 100 free (1:09.23), 12th in the 100 IM (1:19.80), 13th in the 50 butterfly (36.47 seconds) and 18th in the 100 backstroke (1:22.85).

Meanwhile, another Weber from Marshall, not related to the younger swimmer, is making a splash during his rookie college season. Freshman Mason Weber, a four-time all-stater and two-time all-American for the Owls, has cracked Notre Dame's all-time list in four strokes.

Weber has posted the fifth-best times in Fighting Irish history in the 100- (58.89) and 200-yard breaststroke (2:10.14), is ninth in the 200 IM (1:57.65) and 12th in the 100 fly (53.44). The times which got him on the chart occurred during the Ohio State Invitational earlier this month.

In another swimming notes, two members of Marshall's two-time all-state relay teams -- senior Khris Ward and sophomore Tyler Nichols -- competed last weekend at the Chesapeake Elite Pro-Am in Oklahoma City, although results are not yet available.
