SEDALIA -- The Santa Fe boys' basketball team ended a three-game slump Friday with a 55-21 victory over Northwest of Hughesville in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out at Sedalia.

The Chiefs used a 12-point run to take a 14-6 lead after one period, then blanked the Mustangs, 14-0 during the second period. Senior Hunter Rolf led Santa Fe with eight first-half points, winding up with 14 points for the game.

Senior Tim Shcherbina had six points to top Northwest (2-6).

Senior Jeff Knipmeyer added 12 points for the Chiefs (5-3), who will host the Lafayette County Tournament, starting Jan. 4.

Pilot Grove 49, Sweet Springs 43

SEDALIA -- To remain unbeaten, Pilot Grove had to overcome Sweet Springs' flying start Friday in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out at Sedalia.

The Greyhounds dropped in six three-pointers -- two each by seniors Tyler Dohrman and Billy Martin and junior Kyle Fuehring -- during a 24-point first quarter, but didn't match that number over the remaining three periods to drop a 49-43 decision.

Down by 13 points, the Tigers got three goals apiece from seniors Zach Glenn and Brett Twenter during the second period to pull to within five points and held Sweet Springs to 10 points during the second half -- two fewer than Glenn alone scored.

Glenn had 22 points for Pilot Grove (7-0).

Fuehring's 12 points off the bench led the 'Hounds (3-3), who will next play Jan. 4 in the New Franklin Tournament.

Slater 63, Prairie Home 48

PRAIRIE HOME -- Junior Travis Holt went off for 22 points Friday as Slater picked up its first victory of the season with a 63-48 non-conference decision at winless Prairie Home.

The Wildcats led by only two points heading into the final frame, but Holt scored eight points and senior Cody Skinner chipped seven during their 22-9 run.

Junior Gavin Walters scored 19 points for the Panthers (0-8), but only three during the fourth quarter.

Skinner had 13 points and 12 rebounds and junior Jacob Brumit added 11 for Slater (1-5), which will play Jan. 4 in the New Franklin Tournament.

Girls

Richmond 30, Marshall 26

RICHMOND -- Marshall clamped down defensively during the fourth quarter Friday, allowing Richmond only one point, but was unable to overcome a 12-point deficit during a 30-26 non-conference road loss.

The Lady Spartans out-scored the visitors in every period but the last one, in which they didn't make a field goal and missed seven of eight attempts from the free-throw line. However, the Lady Owls -- who made 11 of 30 field goals during the game -- didn't have the firepower to make Richmond pay.

Senior Chelsea Hook had 14 points for the Lady Spartans (2-4).

Marshall was led by sophomore Jasmine Jackson's 10 points and five rebounds.

The Lady Owls (1-6) will meet Warrensburg on Monday in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out at Sedalia.

Northwest 67, Santa Fe 39

SEDALIA -- Senior Meredith Norfleet laid 28 points on Santa Fe during Friday's 67-39 victory for Northwest of Hughesville in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out at Sedalia.

Norfleet sank four shots and senior Mariah Wiskur and sophomore Megan Locke each scored seven points as the Lady Mustangs rolled out to a 24-10 first-quarter lead. By halftime, the margin was 39-15 and the outcome was no longer in doubt.

Wiskur finished with 19 points for Northwest (6-1), which was coming off a championship run at its own tournament.

The Lady Chiefs (2-6) got 15 points from junior Molly Sander.

Sweet Springs 50, Pilot Grove 48

SEDALIA -- Senior Kristin Jones' stick-back off a missed free throw with 1:20 remaining were the final points scored Friday in Sweet Springs' 50-48 decision over previously unbeaten Pilot Grove in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out at Sedalia.

The Lady Tigers got all 13 of their first-quarter points from seniors Whitney Wessing and Madison Twenter for a two-point lead, but the Lady Greyhounds came back to tie it by halftime with three Jones buckets and a pair of three-pointers from sophomore Brittany Higgins.

Wessing scored 10 points during the fourth quarter, but Higgins hit from outside and senior Rachel Thornton sank three of four charity shots to keep the contest even.

Wessing finished with 20 points to pace Pilot Grove (6-1).

Jones had 17 points and 14 rebounds and senior Kathleen Tyler contributed eight assists and three steals for Sweet Springs (5-1).

Slater 59, Prairie Home 27

PRAIRIE HOME -- Senior Niki Kruger's career-high 27 points Friday led Slater to an easy 59-27 non-conference win at Prairie Home.

Kruger hit eight shots for 17 points during the opening period to give the Lady Wildcats a 23-7 lead. She added nine points during the third quarter, a 15-6 frame which added to their 23-point halftime lead.

The leading scorer for the Lady Panthers (0-8) was senior Amanda Coffelt with eight points.

Junior Ana Jackson and sophomore Danielle Allen each tallied seven points for Slater (4-3).
