Ralph W. Malan, 93, of Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 18, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services with Masonic service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with Rev. Mike Brown officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church. Born Feb. 7, 1916, in Osage County near Chamois, he was the son of the late Herman G. Malan and Elsie Curdit Malan. On Aug. 18, 1938, in Miami, he married Mildred L. Howerton, who survives of the home. He attended Miami grade school and high school, moving to Marshall in 1982 from Miami. He was a retired farmer, previously working at Malan Blacksmith Shop and Malan Trucking. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Marshall, where he served as a deacon and a member of the New Century Sunday School Class. He was a Mason for 63 years, being a member of Trilumina Lodge No. 205 AF and AM, previously a member of the Slater and Miami Masonic Lodges. He received the Harry S. Truman Award in conjunction with the Masons. He was also a member of Marshall Chapter 408 Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matron and Patrons Club, Sedalia Shrine Club and Ararat Shrine of Kansas City.
Additional survivors include one son, Roy H. Malan, and wife, Nan, of St. Joseph; two granddaughters, Diane Loveless, and husband, Bruce, of St. Joseph, and Dawn Brady and husband, Jon, of Kansas City; four great-grandchildren, Boston and London Loveless and Morgan and Coleton Brady; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Malan, and one sister, Alma Meyer.
