The Lady Chiefs broke out of the gate strongly, senior Lauren Aversman scoring eight of her game-high 12 points -- going six for six from the free-throw line -- during a 15-4 first quarter. Sophomore Haley Case and freshman Callie Gieselman each made a pair of shots during the second period.
Sophomore Felicia White led the Lady Trojans (0-6) with 11 points, eight in the fourth quarter.
Gieselman and Case combined for 20 points for Santa Fe (2-5), which plays Northwest of Hughesville today in the State Fair Shoot-out at Sedalia.
Jamestown 49, Malta Bend 8
JAMESTOWN -- An 18-0 first quarter was all Jamestown needed Thursday to beat visiting CCAA rival Malta Bend.
Senior Amy Ashley scored 10 of her game-high 12 points during the first half for a Lady Eagle club which took a 30-4 lead into the break -- then cruised to a 49-8 victory.
Eight different players scored for Jamestown (2-5, 1-0 CCAA), which also blanked the Lady Tigers in the fourth quarter.
Junior Kayla Eskew had six of Malta Bend's points and collected seven rebounds. The Lady Tigers (0-8, 0-3) will be off nearly a full month before their Jan. 14 league tilt at Pilot Grove.
Boys
Carrollton 80, Santa Fe 68
CARROLLTON -- Carrollton knocked down 12 three-pointers Thursday to hand visiting Santa Fe its third loss in a row, an 80-68 non-conference decision.
The Trojans led by only three points at halftime, then went on a 31-point splurge during the third quarter. Freshman Brandon Eschenbach, a 6-foot-4 forward, scored nine points during the period and was among four players who connected from outside the arc.
The Chiefs tried to make a run during the final frame, with seniors Jeff Knipmeyer and Matt Lovercamp each scoring seven points, but Carrollton sank 11 of 16 attempts from the free-throw line to maintain its cushion.
Senior Jason Mayden led the Trojans (5-2) with 24 points.
Knipmeyer had 21 points and Lovercamp and senior Hunter Rolf added 11 apiece for Santa Fe (4-3).
Jamestown 58, Malta Bend 31
JAMESTOWN -- Jamestown won its CCAA opener Thursday with a 58-31 home-court showing against Malta Bend.
Senior Kyle Ford drained a pair of three-pointers and senior Mason Fain tallied seven points during the first quarter for the Eagles, who turned that 19-5 lead into a 20-point halftime advantage.
Fain finished with 12 points and junior Andy Flippin had 11 for Jamestown (2-6, 1-0 CCAA).
Senior Tyler Armstrong had a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Tigers (0-8, 0-3).
