The Tigers were overwhelmed from the very start during their 65-33 non-conference loss at Sweet Springs.
The Greyhounds began the contest with a 22-6 run, junior Kyle Fuehring draining three three-pointers during the opening period -- which also saw senior Nick Peeples hit three shorter shots and a pair of free throws.
The second quarter was even worse for Green Ridge, held to a mere three points during the stanza as the Blue and Gold opened up a 42-9 halftime cushion. During the second period, sophomore Colby Dohrman did six points' worth of damage for Sweet Springs.
Sophomore Aaron Keele had eight of his team-high 17 points during the third quarter, the only frame when the Tigers (3-3) got into double digits in scoring.
Peeples finished with 18 points and eight rebounds, Dohrman logged 12 points and 10 boards and senior Billy Martin scored 12 points. Also contributing for the 'Hounds (3-2) were senior Kyle Hollrah with 13 rebounds and senior Tyler Dohrman with five assists and four steals.
Sweet Springs will head to Sedalia on Friday to meet Pilot Grove in the W-K Chevrolet/State Fair Community College Shoot-out.
Carrollton 67, Slater 36
SLATER -- Carrollton had little trouble shaking off host Slater after the first period, using a 21-6 run heading into the break to build a 24-point lead during its 67-36 non-conference win Monday.
Seniors Jason Mayden and Spencer Flick didn't start, but combined for 25 points to pace the Trojans (4-1).
Junior Travis Holt's 20 points was a career high for the Wildcats, who also got 10 rebounds from junior Chris Borgman. Slater (0-4) heads to Paris today for a Lewis and Clark Conference contest.
Lexington 58, Santa Fe 52
LEXINGTON -- Junior Josh Kaullen put up 19 points during Lexington's 58-52 non-conference win Monday over visiting Santa Fe.
The Minutemen led by only two points heading into the final frame, and were pushed by junior Ross Tieman's eight points for the Chiefs down the stretch. Lexington got three buckets from Kauller, though, and made five of 11 attempts from the free-throw line to barely hold off the charge.
Junior Jake Kaullen and senior Andrew Steverson each had 10 points for the Minutemen (2-1).
Tieman's 14 points and 12 from senior Matt Lovercamp paced Santa Fe (4-2), which will try to avoid a three-game slump Thursday at Carrollton.
Girls
Boonville 54, Marshall 14
BOONVILLE -- Senior Heather English alone more than doubled the scoring total of the Marshall team Monday with 29 points during Boonville's 54-14 NCMC home win.
English hit four shots, two from outside, as the Lady Pirates took a 13-5 first-quarter lead and tallied eight more points during the second period to extend the margin to 30-7 at halftime.
The Lady Owls made only five of 29 field-goal attempts and committed 28 turnovers. Only two of their starters scored, for a sum of four points.
Junior Sydney Monteer came off the bench to score 11 points for Boonville (4-1, 2-0 NCMC).
Senior Tara Bartel led Marshall (1-5, 1-2) with seven points and four rebounds. The Lady Owls play Friday at Richmond.
Sweet Springs 61, Green Ridge 27
SWEET SPRINGS -- Senior Kristin Jones led a balanced attack for Sweet Springs, which dismantled visiting Green Ridge for a 61-27 non-conference victory Monday.
Sophomore Brittany Higgins got the Lady Greyhounds off to a strong start with seven points during a 15-8 first quarter. Senior Kathleen Tyler hit two bombs and Jones rang up seven points during an 18-6 second period which gave Sweet Springs a 33-14 halftime lead.
Junior Kristen Morton topped the Lady Tigers (3-3) with 13 points.
Higgins had 11 points and senior Rachel Thornton added 10 for the Lady 'Hounds (4-1).
Slater 51, Carrollton 18
SLATER -- Slater jumped all over visiting Carrollton during a 19-3 opening period and cruised to a 51-18 non-conference victory Monday.
The Lady Wildcats were impressive on defense, allowing the Lady Trojans to shoot only 16.2 percent from the field and dominating the boards by a 38-15 margin.
Sophomore Felicia White led Carrollton (0-5) with eight points.
Sophomore Brooke Clemons had her second double-double in a row for Slater (3-2) with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while senior Niki Kruger added 12 points.
Lexington 55, Santa Fe 49
LEXINGTON -- Lexington took a 12-point lead into the fourth quarter Monday and held off Santa Fe's charge to escape its home court with a 55-49 non-conference decision.
Junior Molly Sander scored seven points for the Lady Chiefs during the final frame, but the Minutewomen were able to survive the attack behind junior Ashley Swofford's nine point.
Swofford and junior Jennie Ritchie each scored 13 points for Lexington (3-0).
Sander and senior Lauren Aversman also tied for game-high honors with 13 points for Santa Fe (1-5).
