Elwyn D. Long, 89, of Marshall, died Sunday, Dec. 13, 2009, at Big Bend Retreat in Slater.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born Dec. 10, 1920, in Wellsville, he was the son of the late Earl D. Long and Nellie Burkhalter Long. He was a graduate of University of Missouri School of Agriculture. On May 15, 1948, he married Marjorie Dennis, who survives of the home. He had served as Saline and Cooper County extension agent, worked for MFA Seed Division and Miller's Mutual Insurance Company. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 2646 in Marshall. He was also a member of University of Missouri Alumni Association.
Additional survivors include two sons, Dennis Long and John Long of Lee's Summit; one daughter, Debbie Hollrah of Marshall; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers.
