Alice M. Schuster, 80, of Boonville died at Ashley Manor Care Center in Boonville on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 2009.
Funeral services will be at United Church of Christ in Boonville at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 14, 2009, with Rev. Judy Fiocco officiating. Burial will follow in the Old Lamine Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Davis Funeral Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 13, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Disabled American Veterans. Born July 27, 1929, in Hardeman, she was the daughter of Arthur and Louisa Mae Poindexter Winkler. On March 10, 1949, she married Elmer F. Schuster in Independence. She was a long-time employee of the Windmill Restaurant, and then worked in the Boonville School District Food Service for 11 years, where she was respected and loved by her students. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends and working in the garden. She was a member of the United Church of Christ in Boonville.
She is survived by two children, Mary L. Gerke and husband, Howard, of Pilot Grove and Larry Schuster and wife, Joyce, of Boonville; one sister, Kathryn Jones and husband, Charles Roy, of Marshall; grandchildren Tim and Brady Schuster, Kevin and Melissa Gerke, Stephanie and Mark Swearingen and Jeff and Rachel Schuster; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, in 1991, and by her parents and step-mother, Katharina Winkler Dye.
