Gerald W. Elson, age 87, of Brookfield, died Monday, Dec. 7, 2009, at Life Care Center in Brookfield.

Funeral service will be Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield with Father Jerry Kaimann and Pastor Mike White officiating. Burial will be in Park Lawn Cemetery in Brookfield. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. Friday at Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, Brookfield. An Elks Session of Sorrow will begin at 5:30 p.m. and the family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Memorials to the Brookfield YMCA or Alzheimer's Association may be left at or mailed to Wright-Baker-Hill Funeral Home, P.O. Box 496, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Born May 30, 1922, in DeWitt, he was the son of Arthur and Susie (Burnside) Elson. On June 24, 1951, he married Beverly Hubbard, who survives of the home. He graduated from Slater High School and earned a B.S. degree from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. He served in World War II as a pilot in the US Marine Corps. Following the war, he worked three years as a sales rep for DX Oil Company. He purchased the Brookfield International Harvester dealership in 1951, and in 1955, he was rehired as a District Manager for DX Oil in Oklahoma. In 1957, he returned to Brookfield and started the Gerry Elson Agency and the Brookfield Federal Savings and Loan, which later became First Missouri National Bank. He served as President and CEO of First Missouri National Bank before retiring in 2004. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and served on the Brookfield Industrial Development Board, Brookfield Carnegie Library Board, and the Pershing Memorial Hospital Board of Directors. He was also a member of the Brookfield Elks Lodge, Brookfield Masonic Lodge, the American Legion, VFW, and he was a Shriner.

In addition to his wife, survivors include four children, Jeff Elson and wife, Mary, Greg Elson and wife, Susan, Brian Elson and wife, Angela, all of Brookfield, and Janie Elson of Columbia; four grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Elson and Jeremy and Alyssa Elson, all of Brookfield; one brother, Gene Elson and wife, Liz, of Miami; and one sister, Maxine Pinkerton of Atlanta, Ga.

He was preceded in death by is parents; two brothers, Marion Elson and Murrell Elson; one sister, Marjorie Holmes; and one nephew, Michael Elson.
