At the end of December, Marshall City Administrator Charles Tryban will retire from his position, he announced at the Marshall City Council meeting Monday evening, Dec. 7.

"It's been a wonderful 25 years," Tryban said. "Really, it's been very enjoyable."

He paused several times while giving his resignation, taking drinks of water in an attempt to avoid getting emotionally choked up.

"It's been a great way, though, for me to finish my business career," Tryban continued. "The city of Marshall is a wonderful town."

In other business, the council approved the sale of seven lots in the Cypress Point subdivision to R.F.E. LLC. The lots will sell for $10,000 each. After the sale, the city will still own three lots in the neighborhood.

Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, Mayor Connie Latimer said the city has sold several lots in that subdivision to private individuals as well, after they were advertised in local media outlets.

The council also approved the reappointment of Jene Crook to the Marshall-Saline Development Corporation board for a one-year term.

In committee reports, council member Ron Duvall said construction during the past month amounted to $107,745, with the majority being additions and repairs on existing residential structures. A total of 36 permits was issued, for $606.

Reporting for the municipal services and personnel committee, council member Sam Moten said that curbside grass and leaf pick-up will end for the season after this week. The compost area will remain open Mondays and Wednesdays from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 7 a.m. to noon.

The council adjourned into executive session to discuss the hiring of a new city administrator. It is an appointed position, so the mayor will choose someone who will then be approved by council members.

But, Latimer said Tuesday, she doesn't expect to make a final decision before January.

All council members were present at the meeting.

The council will meet again Monday, Dec. 21, at 5:15 p.m. in the City Office Building.

Ms. Stonner,

Could you please tell me where the Cypress Point subdivision is located in Marshall?

Good luck Charles, I know it's not always been easy.

Was there some kind of bidding process for the lots in the Cypress addition? Or was R.F.E. LLC the only enterprise offered the opportunity to purchase the lots?

Response by Sydney Stonner/Staff writer:
Marshall Mayor Connie Latimer said Tuesday, Dec. 8, that the lots are for sale for anyone interested in buying and were advertised as such previously. Several have already been sold to private individuals.
