Evelyn Gertrude (Huffine) Burns, 94, formerly of Marshall, died Friday, Dec. 4, 2009, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond. Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 6, at Woods Chapel United Methodist Church in Odessa, with visitation prior to the service. Rev. Ray Anderson officiated. Burial was in Woods Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Woods Chapel Cemetery Association or Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 17, 1915, she was the daughter of the late Herman D. Huffine and Virginia Collins Huffine. She attended Central Methodist College and Central Missouri State College, completing a bachelor's degree in education, and taught elementary school. She married Rev. Arnold W. Burns, a Methodist minister, who preceded her in death May 6, 2007. Together they lived in Marshall for 15 years from 1976 to 1991.
She is survived by one daughter, Evelyn Elaine Frazier of Vallejo, Calif.; one son, Ralph A. Burns of Ballwin; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
