The Lady Wildcats had an 11-point run during the first half, but were down by a point at the break after the Lady Hornets closed out the second period with an 11-2 spurt.
Slater won the second half by a 22-7 margin, and may have helped itself more had it shot better than six of 22 from the free-throw line. Fortunately for the Lady 'Cats, Westran wasn't much better at five of 15 and was beaten on the board by a 47-30 margin -- sophomore Kaylee Holt grabbing 12 rebounds and junior Ana Jackson 11 for the Purple.
Junior Sam Gwinner led all scorers with 11 points for the Lady Hornets (0-1).
Slater had balanced scoring with nine points from sophomore Brooke Clemons and eight each by Holt and Jackson. The Lady 'Cats (1-0) meet No. 1 seed Harrisburg, a 77-18 winner over Fayette, in Wednesday's consolation semifinal round.
Stet 23, Malta Bend 17
MALTA BEND -- Malta Bend native Aaron Varner made a successful return to his home town Monday.
The former Tigers coach led Stet to a 23-17 non-conference victory, a contest in which saw the teams play evenly during the second half after the Lady Cardinals went into intermission with a six-point lead.
Junior Alexandra Anderson scored all eight of her points during the second half to lead Stet (1-0).
Malta Bend senior Brittany Koss was the high scorer with nine points, while senior Paige Wattenbarger collected 10 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers (0-2) will be at home Thursday to face Sweet Springs.

Harrisburg 68, Slater 29
GLASGOW -- Defending Glasgow Tournament champion Harrisburg may have lost three all-staters from a squad which reached the MSHSAA Class 2 finals last year, but showed no sign of slowing down Monday during a 68-29 first-round romp over Slater.
The Bulldogs raced out to 30-4 lead in the first quarter and cruised the rest of the way. Junior Tyler Rasmussen had a game-high 17 points and senior Jesse Heuer added a dozen for Harrisburg (1-0).
The Wildcats were topped by junior Jacob Brumit's 14 points. Slater (0-1) meets Keytesville in the consolation semifinal round Wednesday.
Stet 56, Malta Bend 21
MALTA BEND -- A 16-3 second quarter gave Stet the separation it needed Monday for a 56-21 non-conference win at Malta Bend.
The Tigers were within seven points after one period, but wouldn't equal those 11 points for the rest of the game. The Cardinals used three baskets each from seniors Derek McGinnis and Walter Walker during the second frame to head into halftime with a 20-point lead.
McGinnis and senior Ryan Foster both tallied 13 points and Walker had 12 for Stet (1-0).
Senior Tyler Armstrong's nine points led Malta Bend (0-2).
