Ronald Lee Jones, 61, of Marshall and formerly of Brunswick, died at his home in Marshall Monday, Nov. 16, 2009. Funeral services were held at Gibson Funeral Home in Brunswick Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at 1 p.m. with Rev. Lanny Lybarger officiating. Visitation was at the funeral home Friday, Nov. 20. Burial was in Salisbury City Cemetery with military honors provided by the Rucker-McAllister American Legion Post No. 7 of Brunswick.
Pallbearers were Derrick Bachtel, Darrell Bachtel, Dustin Bachtel, Tracy Link, Justin Foltz and Dennis Desmond. Honorary pallbearers were Dale Turner and Dave Robbins. Memorials may be made to the Rusker-McAllister American Legion Post No. 7 at Brunswick or to Neurofibromatosis Inc.
Jones was born June 13, 1948, in Glasgow, the son of William Leo and Sophia Geneva (Stallman) Jones. He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1966 and served his country as a member of the United States Navy aboard the USS R.B. Anderson, during which time he was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze star and the National Defense Service Medal. From 1973 through 2004, he worked as a foreman at United Refrigeration in Marshall. Prior to his death, he was working at the Marshall Habilitation Center. He was a member of the Rucker-McAllister American Legion Post No. 7 at Brunswick and a 30-year member of V.F.W. Post 2646 at Marshall, serving as the current president of the Veterans Club Association No. 2646. Jones was a Baptist.
He is survived by two brothers, Randy Jones and his wife, Joyce, of Brunswick and Rory Jones of Marshall; two sisters, Janis Diane Jones of Imperial and Debbie Bachtel and her husband, Doug, of Keytesville; seven nieces and nephews; and three great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
