A Malta Bend man was killed Sunday morning, Nov. 22, in a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 65 in Marshall, according to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report.

Mark A. Treece, 45, was pronounced dead near the scene by Saline County Coroner Willie Harlow, troopers said.

The accident occurred about 3 a.m. as Treece was traveling northbound about four-tenths of a mile north of the intersection of U.S. 65 and state Highway 240.

Treece apparently failed to negotiate a slight curve. The 1995 Ford he was driving went off the right side of the road, struck a culvert, rotated clockwise, overturned and and came to rest on top of two parked tractors, according to the report.

The accident was reported to Marshall police at 7:25 a.m.

Treece was not wearing a safety device, troopers said.

My prayers go out to the family and friends of this man... Very tragic and sudden.

I do not know him personaly, but understand from those that do, to be a good whole hearted person.

It says "near the scene" not "at" the scene

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
I made that change after speaking with the trooper who worked the accident. The highway patrol report uses the word "at" but Mr. Treece left the vehicle and died nearby, according to the trooper.

wow, shocking .... this is super scary :| i imagine myself in this situation.. i can add this on my project essay help me if its ok :)

I think this info was taken directly from the MSHP crash report.

That's true. We'll check with authorities this morning and get some clarification about the incident.

Then how could he be pronounced dead on the scene?

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
The trooper who reported on the crash said Mr. Treece did leave the immediate site but was found nearby. To simplify the brief report posted on the web he used "at the scene" because Mr. Treece was close enough to the vehicle to use the term.

Thats what I heard too...?

I heard that he got out and walked to the gas station close by.
