Robert Oliver, 78, of Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Crowley, Texas, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009, at the home of his son in Las Vegas.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, 2009, at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Visitation will be from noon to 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born Aug. 18, 1931, in Muncie, Kan., he was the son of the late John E. Oliver and Ethel L. Stevenson Oliver. On Oct. 23, 1965, he married Marge Dickson McKee, who preceded him in death on May 6, 2006.
He was a maintenance engineer for many years at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth, retiring in 1997. He was a United States Marine veteran, enlisting on Dec. 29, 1947. During his time in the Marines he was stationed in Korea, where he served in combat action. He was honorably discharged as a corporal on May 9, 1952. He lived in Crowley for many years and has spent the last few years close to his family in Las Vegas. He was a Catholic.
Survivors include one son, Dwight Oliver of Las Vegas; one daughter, Karen Basilotta, of Las Vegas; one step-son, Roger McKee of Burleson, Texas; one step-daughter, Carol Clouser of Burleson, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one brother, Richard Oliver, of Las Vegas; along with many other family members and friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers Jack Oliver and Elmer Oliver, both of Las Vegas.
