The Slater School Board dealt with mostly routine business during their meeting held Thursday, Nov. 19 in the school library.
The board voted to authorize Superintendent John McEachern to post a notice of the April 6, 2010 election where the seats of current board members Larry Skinner and Joey Gochenour will be up for re-election.
Filing for the two seats will open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 15 and will close at 5 p.m. on Jan. 19, 2010, McEachern said.
McEachern also told board members that the new surface for school playground is in place and students will get a chance to use it "as soon as the rain stops."
The board accepted the Career Ladder Report from the Department of Secondary Education (DSE), which had "high accolades" of the school's use of the Career Ladder.
The board delayed an action to amend the budget until their Dec. 11 meeting at noon, when they will meet with the architect for the recently approved Early Childhood Center, along with the bonding company to discuss the upcoming project and to get clarification of the costs of the building and the issuance of bonds.
After the meeting, the board adjourned into Executive Session where they voted to allow an individual student to graduate early. They also reviewed applications for the high school principal position, which has been advertised for four weeks, McEachern said. Current principal Jim Audsley will be retiring at the end of the school year.
The only board member absent from the meeting was Gochenour who is currently on military deployment in Iraq.
