Elizabeth Margaret "Betty" Guthrey McCann, 67, of Miami, MO, died Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, MO.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, November 23, 2009, at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery. Born November 7, 1942, in East St. Louis, IL, she was the daughter of the late Kile Palmore Guthrey, Sr. and Harriet Laura Hoge Guthrey. She attended Miami R-1 School, was a 1960 graduate of Marshall High School and attended Missouri Valley College. On September 12, 1964, in Marshall, she married William D. (Bill) McCann who survives of the home. She was a retired executive secretary at Peabody Coal Company in St. Louis, MO and had worked as Saline County Deputy Recorder of Deeds. She was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Friends of Miami, Miami Cemetery Board, Marshall Mid-Day Optimist and Missouri Valley Women. She was also a member of Women in Mining-St. Louis Chapter having served as president and national vice-president and was a Women in Mining Hall of Fame honoree.
Additional survivors include two brothers, Kile Guthrey, Jr. and wife, Sandi of Miami and Charles Guthrey and wife Jackie of Marshall; five nephews, Brad Guthrey and wife Sarah, Scott Guthrey and wife Rachel, Kip Guthrey and wife Betsy, James Guthrey, Todd Guthrey and wife Jennifer; and two nieces, Kathy Guthrey Roberts and husband Brandon, Libby Guthrey; and 13 great-nieces and great-nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, James Garnett Guthrey, one nephew, Ryan Eaton Guthrey, an aunt, Elizabeth Margaret Guthrey, an uncle, John Garnett Guthrey, Jr., paternal grandparents, John Garnett and Clara Bell Kile Guthrey; and maternal grandparents, Charles Gardner and Pearl Minnie Smith Hoge.
