Malta Bend man charged with assault

Thursday, November 19, 2009
Ryan M. Arnold, 26, of Malta Bend, was charged with class A misdemeanor assault on a law enforcement officer Saturday, Nov. 14, in connection with an incident in Malta Bend.

According to information filed with the probable cause statement, a Saline County Sheriff's deputy and a Missouri Highway patrolman were called to a Malta Bend residence on a report of an "out of control male," and found Arnold lying on a sidewalk in front of the home.

When the officers attempted to speak with Arnold, he attacked them, fighting with them and spitting on them, as they struggled to get him into handcuffs. One of the officers reported a shoulder injury following the incident.

An arrest warrant issued for Arnold asks a cash or surety bond of $2,500; at press time Thursday, Nov. 20, Arnold was not yet in custody.

Charges contained in reports provided by law enforcement officials are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting charges must be presented before a jury, whose duty is to determine if the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charges.

The Democrat News never has anything nice to say about ANYONE. Maybe if they did they would sell more papers!!

Malta Bend has a lot going on for it, maybe if the jounalist did some investegating they would see that MB is a dimond in the rough.

Malta Bend has a bad rep because of the many residents who have moved to the area in recent years. This town is not the one of 15 or 20 years ago with many good upstanding families (ask the older people).

Face facts people have moved out on purpose because of the school system because of too small of classes and poor academic achievement.Look and see how many Malta Bend Alumni's who send their kids to neighboring districts or who have moved because of the town's problems. The only recent positive fact is the people who came with the ethanol plant. They seem to care.

People do not want to live in a community of felons and neighbors who do drugs. It a sad but true fact and I know people will be mad at these truths I speak.

I am sorry for the good people who try to deal with MB's problems....maybe the town needs to have zoning on rental property, offer building lots outside of town for decent people to relocate. Birds of a feather flock together!!! MB has a bad rep

I agree with Tigerfamily, Malta Bend gets the shaft. We are like the ugly stepsister of the county! If the Democrat Newspaper was a student on the playground, they'd be considered a bully.

Pick on someone your own size!

Stiffler, I agree with you too. Seldom do we realize or appreciate what law enforcers do or go through on a daily basis. We should honor them more.

Tigerfamily,

Unfortunatly, bad news sells. Welcome to todays society, where people are more interested in reading about people doing wrong, than right. I do agree we need more positive things in the news, however, you are dealing with human nature.....

Once again, I read our local law enforcement officers, respond to deal with a "out of control male." They are then attacked and spit on. What? I have spoke to officers in the past, city and county, and have come to realize they deal with people like this often, a lot of times which are not mentioned in the paper.

I realize the officers know things like the above mentioned story can and may happen to them while serving as city, county, or state officers, when the take the Oath. However, I can not fathem, why they would show up to help someone, and then become subject to being attacked and spit on. Sounds like someone should have been transported to the hospital, subject to a *^&% kick'n, but some how, these officers must have remained cool headed. I have no idea how.

My hats off to law enforcement officers and local emergency service personal. Good luck and Happy Holidays to you and your families.

Here we go again...Seems the only time Malta Bend gets any press time is when it involves a criminal element! What ever happens to the positive articles we send in about our school children? Awards, actitives, grants...sure don't see any of that getting covered or printed even when proud parents or concerned Malta Bend citizens send information to you. A lot of the citizens of Malta Bend are frustrated with the unequal coverage of our town.
