Marshall man held for child abuse

Thursday, November 19, 2009
Robert W. King Jr., 28, of Marshall, is being held in Saline County Justice Facility, charged with class C felony abuse of child, in connection with an incident at the King home Thursday, Nov. 12.

According to an incident report filed with the probable cause statement, King pushed a five-year-old child, causing a bruised cheek or "sort of a black eye." The report indicates King said he did not intentionally hurt the child and that the incident was an accident.

King's bond has been set at $4,000, cash only. King appeared before Judge James T. "Tut" Bellamy in Associate Court Wednesday, Nov. 18; Bellamy declined to amend the bond or its conditions.

Charges contained in reports provided by law enforcement officials are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting charges must be presented before a jury, whose duty is to determine if the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charges.
