This week Marshall High School students present the musical comedy "Lucky Stiff" by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty about just that, according to a press release.
Based on "The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo" by Michael Butterworth, the play tells the story of Harry Witherspoon, played by Jacob Phillips, who is an unassuming English shoe salesman, living an uneventful life in Boston.
His life takes a dramatic turn when he learns that his uncle Anthony, a casino manager from Atlantic City played by Stephen Meyer, has been killed by Anthony's blind lover.
Harry learns that he stands to inherit $6 million from his uncle -- but only if he agrees to take his uncle's corpse on a trip to Monte Carlo.
Otherwise, the money will all go to his uncle's favorite charity, the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn.
In a quest to gain his uncle's inheritance, Harry sets out to fulfill Anthony's dying wish. However, in Monte Carlo, he meets a host of quirky characters who are also in hot pursuit of his uncle's money.
Other cast members are Siara Campbell, Nathan Foreman, Brandon Pace, Taylor Witcher, Lexie McDanel, Lizz Lockhart, Kaleigh Summers, Matthew Kraus, Aaron Kerksiek, KaeLeigh Brown, Casey Samson, Bailey Johnson, Olivia Diehm, Mikaela Henke, Maggie Hoffelmeyer, Jana Lappin, Cheyenne Brown and Spencer Butts.
The MHS production of "Lucky Stiff" runs from Nov. 18-20 at the MHS Little Theater. Shows begin nightly at 7 p.m. Student tickets are $4, and adult admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased at the door or reserved by calling 660-886-2244, extension 224.
