Marshall man charged with burglary, stealing

Tuesday, November 17, 2009
Bobby Dale McComas, 27, of Marshall, was arrested Friday, Nov. 13, and charged with one count of class C felony burglary in the second degree, two counts of class C felony stealing and one count of class D felony possession of burglar tools.

McComas is being held at Saline County Justice Facility on a cash-only bond of $5,000; a court appearance has not been scheduled.

McComas was stopped on a Marshall residential street when a deputy sheriff recognized the vehicle McComas was driving as one reported stolen from a home in rural Saline County. A search of the vehicle revealed the presence of a number of items also reported stolen from the home.

According to an incident report filed with the probable cause statement, McComas provided a written statement indicating he had stolen the pickup truck and had driven it "around Marshall at different times."

Among the items identified as stolen from the home are a .243 caliber bolt-action rifle with scope, a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun, binoculars, approximately $40 in nickels and dimes and $30 in quarters.

McComas, the report indicates, is currently being sought on an active warrant from the Board of Probation and Parole for violating the conditions of his parole and has a criminal history including two convictions of second-degree burglary and one conviction of felony stealing, all in Saline County.

Charges contained in reports provided by law enforcement officials are not evidence of guilt. Evidence supporting charges must be presented before a jury, whose duty is to determine if the accused is guilty or not guilty of the charges.
