Malta Bend man arrested after scuffle with deputy

Monday, November 16, 2009
A 26-year-old Malta Bend man was arrested Saturday, Nov. 14, and could face a charge of assaulting a law enforcement officer after wrestling with a Saline County Sheriff's deputy, according to a sheriff's department report.

The deputy, assisted by a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper, responded to a residence in Malta Bend after receiving a report that the man was hitting people and was "throwing a fit" after being locked out of the home.

The deputy reported finding the man curled up on the sidewalk in front of the residence. When the law enforcement officers approached, the man doubled up his fists and charged at the deputy, according to the report.

When the man refused to comply with officers' demands that he stop fighting, the officers attempted to handcuff him. During an ensuing scuffle, the deputy reported suffering an injury to his shoulder.

A resident of the home told officers the man had been drinking all day. Because of the man's behavior, an ambulance was called to check on his condition, according to the report.

The man was transported by ambulance to Fitzgibbon Hospital.

Charges were filed and court hearing was set for Jan. 20th 2010. Has there been an update on this posted?
