Larry R. Sloan, 66, of Marshall, died Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov.14, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Memorials may be made to Fitzgibbon-Mary Montgomery Hospice. Born May 7, 1943, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Rex Sloan and Olive Bear Sloan. He had lived in Marshall his entire life, was a 1961 graduate of Marshall High School and later attended Barber College in Kansas City. On Oct. 26, 1974, he married Sheryl Degraffenreid, who survives of the home. He worked as a fireman and salesman, but most of his career was spent being a barber in Marshall for more than 30 years. He helped start the Marshall Bow Club.
Additional survivors include one son, Scott Sloan and wife, Dena, of Indianola, Iowa; two daughters, Kimmie Sloan and fiancÚ, Richard Bargfrede, of Marshall and Gail Surface and husband, Chad, of Marshall; seven grandchildren; two brothers, Ronnie Sloan of Whitt, Texas, and Todd Sloan and wife, Beverly, of rural Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son.
