From the looks of the large pile of cereal boxes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day at Marshall Senior Center, at least for now.

The center is collecting hot and cold cereal, or monetary donations, for the 2009 Saline County Holiday Project, with a goal of 400 boxes by Friday, Dec. 4. As of Wednesday, Nov. 4, the center had already collected about 200 boxes since it began a couple of weeks ago.

"We could go over" the goal, Kathy Tyre said, smiling. "That would be alright."

She said the cereal drive "is a way that we can contribute back to the community."

Drop donations off at the center, 72 W. Morgan St., or call 660-886-9888 for more information.
