Gladys Wagner, 96, of Blackburn, died Monday, Nov. 2, 2009, at Independence Manor in Independence.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 6, 2009, at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackburn, with Rev. Timothy C. Miille officiating. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Blackburn. Born Feb. 11, 1913, in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late John Gerken and Regina (Jennie) Menegali Gerken. She graduated from Sweet Springs High School in 1931 and attended Missouri State Teacher's College in Warrensburg. On April 24,1945, in Lawrence, Kan., she married Herman Wagner Jr. who preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2001. She was a school teacher and farm wife. She lived in Fayetteville, N.C., while her husband was in the U.S. Army, then they moved to a farm near Blackburn. In 1970, she and her husband retired and moved to Blackburn. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and its Zion Lutheran Guild.
Survivors include one son, Gene R. Wagner of Lexington; one daughter, Lois Ann Hoy of Independence; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Mowery of Blue Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter in infancy, Regina Carol Wagner.
