The council also approved the reappointment of Gracie Bouws, who currently serves as the commission's treasurer, for another three-year term.
Other tourism commission members are Amy Crump, Gary Grote and Bob Kueck.
Marshall citizen David Kemm was also present at the council meeting to discuss his city betterment projects. Kemm said his annual city clean-up will be the second week of April 2010, and he continues to collect donations to fund tree plantings.
In committee reports, the council heard from Sam Moten about activity at Marshall Memorial Airport.
"It's down quite a bit," he said. And about the fuel sold, "It's about half what it was in September."
In October, a total of 148 aircraft were logged, compared to 244 in September and 254 in October 2008.
Fuel sold totaled 752.2 gallons, versus 1,353.5 in September and 1,211.1 in October 2008.
Solid waste pick-up in October remained steady at 739.2 tons, compared to 741.1 in September and 755 in October 2008.
Recycling amounted to 70.9 tons, versus 69.5 in September and 75 in October 2008.
Council member Ron Duvall said a total of $407,000 in construction occurred during the month of October, 63 percent of which was new residential; and, 43 permits were issued.
Duvall also mentioned his recent attendance at two meetings: one regarding the city's retirement program and one hosted by Missouri Municipal League, also attended by council member Gabe Ramsey.
Council member Dan Brandt spoke briefly about the upcoming election Tuesday, Nov. 3.
He urged other council members and area citizens to support the Marshall school bond issue.
"There's a lot of things the city does to keep this enticing to businesses and to families," he said, and a good school is just part of the package.
In other business, the council announced a meeting of the finance committee on Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 5:15 p.m.
All council members were present at the meeting.
The council's next meeting is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 16, at 5:15 p.m.
