MVCAA leases part of old jail

Wednesday, October 28, 2009

At their meeting Wednesday morning, Oct. 28, Saline County Commissioners announced that the old county jail has been rented to Missouri Valley Community Action Agency.

MVCAA has signed a three-year lease with the county. The organization will pay $750 per month in rent and will take official possession on Dec. 1. MVCAA plans to use the facility as its family resource center, where Head Start case managers and intake specialists will work, said MVCAA Career Services Director Susan Hunter.

Also at the meeting, commissioners approved two payments for courthouse renovations: $14,447.06 to Marshall Electrical Contracting for additional electrical work and $14,900 to Renaissance Roofing for the installation of new flashing on the tower walls.

Northern District Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown and Southern District Commissioner Richard "Dick" Hassler were also present at the meeting.

Commissioners will meet again Thursday, Oct. 29, at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the courthouse.
