Malta Bend resident joins Republican race for 4th District seat

Friday, October 23, 2009
Congressman Ike Skelton, D-Mo., has yet another possible challenger in the 2010 election for Missouri's 4th District seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. Art Madden, of Malta Bend, announced he was entering the race as a Republican candidate at a meeting of the Pettis County Pachyderm club in Sedalia Friday, Oct. 23.

Madden, who is originally from the St. Louis area, is the president of the Malta Bend Board of Education and works as the finance manager Mid-Missouri Energy.

He spoke to the club about the problems facing today's schools, and said the qualities that yield excellence in education -- paying attention and letting people know they matter, among other things -- are the same qualities an elected representative should have.

Madden said he feels Skelton does not represent his constituents, but rather is just a politician.

"A politician will tell you what you want to hear," Madden said, but "a representative will tell you what you need to know."

Five other Republicans have announced their candidacy for Skelton's seat as well. They are Brian Riley, of Marshall; Sen. Bill Stouffer, of Napton; former state Rep. Vicky Hartzler, of Harrisonville; former Jefferson City councilman Roy Viessman; and James Scholz, an Army veteran who owns a computer security business in Warrensburg.

Ok Mr./Mrs. "Tito" Art Madden is an awesome guy. He did NOT bad mouth anybody. He stated his opinion and nothing more. And if I read the article right he was not bragging about being Pres. of the Malta Bend school board... its not like he wrote the article himself. My vote is for Madden!!!

hey jo, judging by the education you apparently dont have i.e- "if the people of MO. is(should be are) not tired of the Republicans yet" What do you mean their lies? It is your president that is running things and the Democratic controlled senate. What ideaoligy? what that babies live when they are concieved or that homosexualality is wrong or that being a ciizen here is a right not an expectation? And by the way the country isn't ours, your president sold it to china 8 months ago! oh and by the way, you can't just choose which words get capitals, it was english class in school, you should check it out

What does a St. Louis guy (Madden) know about our area.... rural America?? How long has he lived in the area?? And from what I heard anybody a resident of Malta Bend could be on the school board. I would not brag about this title considering Malta Bend has low enrollment, low test scores (check out the DESE site) and basically the good old farm families are sending their children to neighboring districts. Its a wonder MB schools doors are still open!!

Now Ike is born and raised in our area (Lexington) and is in touch with the people of this area. He has crossed party lines to do what is right for everyone so Art Madden do not bad mouth a good guy when you have no clue who he is and what he has done for our area and country!!!! Good luck my vote is for IKE!!!!!!

There are no term limits for members of the U.S. Congress. Next year, we will see a lot of current Congressmen and women lose their seats and Ike Skelton will be one of them. He has served our district well in the past but lately, NOT AT ALL.

movaldude,

blah, blah, blah, you put them all in a gunny sack and shake them up I don't know which idiot would fall out first! We have stood and listened to nothing but lies from both sides of the isle.

This country has gone to hell in a hand basket and I think there is enough blame for both parties. We had a democrat president sign NAFTA and the republicans lap it up, so they both sold us all out.

Don't attempt to inform me that the dems are any different than the repubs, they all are in it for the power and attention or you wouldn't have millionaires taking the job!

I would respectfully disagree with Art Madden. Ike Skelton is my representative. He has done a great job. He is one of the most centrist congressman in the country.

The Radicals in the Republican Party are what have ruined the Republican Party. Sarah, Rush & Glen boy do you have a lot to be proud and they are the ones who speak for the Republican Party. Death squads and all. Talk about over-reaching and overplaying your hand. Listen all you radical rightwingers. You lost the election fair and square. Plus it didn't take the "supreams" to wedge your enlarged ego's in office this time.

Plus I am a fifth generation Saline County Citizen who was raised Republican but I just saw the light and realized they are not the party of Lincoln but of Sarah, Rush,Glen and thiefs of Wallstreet. Plus the rest of my family switch too.

Plus Gumby...in the US. legislature there are not term limits. Plus have you looked up how much legislation that Ike has co-sponsored. You don't have to have your name upon the legislation to have a great deal of influence on the legislation.

If the People of Mo. is not tired of the Republicans yet, and you can stand for Lies and deceit from them , you better go for Therapy! The Ideology of these People are so wrong,it's a wonder this Country is still our's!!

Isn't Skelton term limited out yet??? Why is it that you never see any major legislation come out of the Skelton camp? Just another follower I guess, just what this Country needs again???

"a representative will tell you what you need to know".....PLLLLLEEEAAASSSSEEEE!

How about WE THE PEOPLE tell our "representative" what he/she needs to know!?! They are, after all, our employees!

Welcome to the race Mr. Madden, you and the 5 other republicans spend your money, and Ike Skelton will again be re-elected.
