Marshall Community Chorus kicks off its 21st season Sunday, Oct. 25, with a concert of folk songs from around the world, titled "Going Home."

Director Ron Sayer said both familiar and unfamiliar works will be among those on the program. Songs from Korea, Japan, Australia and Europe will be featured. There will also be well-known American songs like "Home on the Range," "Billy Boy," "Down in the Valley," "Long Time Ago" and "Frankie and Johnny."

"We tried to broaden our musical repertoire this year, and we are doing several of the folk songs in their original languages," Sayer said.

These include "Sakura, Sakura" in Japanese and a Hebrew folk song in that language.

"The foreign language plus the rhythms on a number of these pieces have been very challenging for our singers, but they have done well," he added.

"Going Home" is scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Marshall High School Little Theater.

The community chorus will perform three additional concerts this season. "A Christmas Spectacular," where the choir will be joined by the Marshall High School Singers and Choraliers, is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 12 and 13, at First Baptist Church.

On Sunday, April 18, MCC will conclude the season with "The Best of Broadway," which Sayer called an "all-Broadway spectacular."
