Baker resigns as CEO of I-70 Community Hospital

Monday, October 19, 2009
I-70 Community Hospital CEO Ron Baker announced his resignation, effective Oct. 19, according to a news release from the hospital.

Baker was the founding CEO for I-70 Community Hospital, in Sweet Springs, which opened in November 2005.

During Baker's tenure as CEO, the hospital has grown to the point that specialty clinics are now offered in cardiology, rheumatology, neurology, orthopedics, gastro-intestinal and podiatry. Baker plans to pursue other opportunities in the health care industry, hospital officials said.

I-70 Medical Center was acquired by HMC/CAH Consolidated in March.

HMC is placing Bill May as interim CEO until a new permanent CEO is selected.

May is a regional executive with HMC/CAH, and has more than 40 years of experience in the health care industry, including 32 years as a hospital CEO.

One of the next major projects for I-70 Community Hospital will be the construction of a new medical office building on the hospital campus.

The hospital is planning to use federal Recovery Zone bonds to finance this new office building.

HMC/CAH will begin the search for a new CEO immediately.

It sounds like the management company that bought the Sweet Springs hospital led the old Board of Directors down the garden path. It appears Dr. Hinton and the guy from Sedalia were right. The management company appears to have managed things into the ground. I guess that will help their bottom line when it comes to tax time.

Some forgot the old adage. If it sounds too good and looks to good, it is probably because of the glitter and empty promises that accompany it. Sounds like politics doesn't it?

I agree with Gumby. I've yet to figure out the necessity of a second hospital in Saline County. The first aid station in Marshall sends everyone to Columbia, by helicopter, and Sweet Springs sends everyone on to Kansas City, by helicopter, so why not just build a huge helicopter pad with some of the airport money and put it at Marshall Junction.

I never could understand how anyone ever thought a second hospital in our rural Saline County could ever make it??? Maybe they need to consult with our 911 board on how to get more money than they would ever need??

I've heard that they can't pay to have the lawn mowed...before they construct anything new, maybe they better take care of what they already owe.
