The Greyhounds got on the board on a 4-yard run by senior Tyler Dohrman, capping a 10-play, 45-yard drive, eight minutes into the game. The next time they got the ball, junior David Hall broke off a 56-yard touchdown run.
The score remained 14-0 at halftime, but Hall began the second half with a 75-yard kick return to add to the margin.
Sweet Springs scored twice more during the third period. A 41-yard dash by senior Tyler Armstrong set up senior Billy Martin's 2-yard quarterback sneak and senior Nick Peeples blocked a punt, scooped up the ball and raced 40 yards for a score.
Although the Mustangs (0-7, 0-1 District 8) got 94 rushing yards from senior quarterback Zac Crooker, the 'Hounds' defense did its part -- senior Kyle Hollrah coming up with a pair of sacks and junior Kyle Fuehring intercepting a pass.
"We played pretty well, especially with a sloppy field and with two starting linemen out," said Sweet Springs head coach Tim Smith. "Some young kids stepped up and played well."
The 'Hounds (4-4, 1-0) will be back at home to take on third-ranked Tipton in a clash which could determine the district champion.
