Ernie L. Stewart, 53, of Independence, died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, of pancreatic cancer at his home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 3736 Lee's Summit Road, Independence. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. Mark's Catholic Church, with rosary to be said at 7 p.m. Pallbearers will be Sal Belfonte, David Belfonte, Henry Belfonte, Johnny Belfonte, Sal Michael Belfonte, Jim Everett, Phillip Stewart and Jordan Stewart. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Mark's Parrish or to Kansas City Hospice, 9221 Ward Parkway, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114.
Born Nov. 2, 1955, in Kansas City, he was the son of Ben and Juanita Stewart, who survive of Kansas City. In 1975, he married Marie Belfonte, who survives of the home. He was general sales manager for Belfonte Ice Cream and Dairy Foods in Kansas City.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons, Sal Stewart and Benny Stewart, both of Kansas City; one daughter, Anna Green of Kansas City; three brothers, Kenny Stewart and Gary Stewart, both of Kansas City, and Bob G. Stewart of Marshall; four grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
