Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Houstonia Cemetery, with Rev. Chris Ruddell officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday at Houstonia United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to the church in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Sept. 24, 1924, in Houstonia, he was the son of the late Walter Werneke and Thelma Houchen Werneke. He was a 1942 graduate of Houstonia High School. He married Mildred Nichols, who survives of the home. He had lived in Houstonia his entire life and was a truck driver. He was a member of Houstonia United Methodist Church.
Additional survivors include two sons, Jim Werneke of Hot Springs, Ark., and Randy Werneke of Houstonia; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ed Werneke of rural Nelson and Fred Werneke of Mesa, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.
