Evelyn Gardner, 79, of Lincoln, died Friday, Oct. 9, 2009, at her home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, at Lincoln United Methodist Church, with Rev. Darrin Rew officiating. Burial was in Lincoln Cemetery in Lincoln. No visitation was held. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lincoln United Methodist Church or Benton County Hospice in care of Davis-Miller Funeral Home in Lincoln.
She was born April 21, 1930, in Urbana, the daughter of the late Lynn Delsena Hobbs Reser. She grew up in Urbana and graduated from Urbana High School in 1948. Following graduation, she attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield. On March 30, 1952, she married Emmett Gardner at Urbana Methodist Church, with Emmett's father, Rev. S.A. Gardner, officiating. The couple lived in Sparta, Wis., and later in Oak Park, Ill. In 1954, they moved to Lincoln. She was secretary to the superintendent of Lincoln R-2 School District for 31 years and also served as secretary to Lincoln Board of Education. After her retirement, she served as coordinator of the Red Cross blood drive for several years. She was a member of Lincoln United Methodist Church and a charter member of Ruth Circle. She served as treasurer of the church for many years and was very active in church work. She was also a member of the Lincoln Red Hats Club.
She is survived by her husband, Emmett Gardner of the home; one daughter, Pam Reeder of Marshall; four grandchildren; one great-grandchildren; two sisters, Flora Wyatt of Lawrence, Kan., and Lora Gardner of Lincoln; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Harris, on July 14, 2009.
