They may otherwise have fond memories, but Senior Night was one Marshall softball upperclassmen would probably prefer to forget.

The Lady Owls' final home date featured two big losses, a 12-1 non-conference tilt against Oak Grove followed by a 10-4 NCMC defeat at the hands of Moberly.

The Lady Panthers (12-16) had two big innings, scoring four unearned runs in the second after a two-out error -- three on junior Chelsey Kavalas' double. Kavalas struck again in the seven-run seventh, clearing the loaded bases with a triple.

If driving in six runs wasn't enough, Kavalas allowed the Lady Owls only one run, when seniors Tara Bartel and KaeLeigh Brown singled in the fourth. Marshall had eight hits, but left eight runners on base.

The Lady Spartans (12-11, 7-5 NCMC) did most of their damage in the top of the first, rallying for seven runs -- the last three on a double by sophomore Lindsay Boyer. Junior Allie Jorgensen also had a two-run single during the spree.

The Lady Owls sliced three runs off a 9-0 deficit in the fifth. Singles by sophomores Megan Scott and Stephanie Stark were followed by junior Emily Aldredge's two-run double and a triple from junior Chelsey Anderson.

Again, Marshall had its chances, but stranded 11 runners.

The Lady Owls (3-14, 3-7) will close out the regular season today with a doubleheader at Kirksville, then open play Wednesday in the Class 3, District 13 Tournament at Clinton.
