Gary Lee Griffitt, 64, of rural Marshall, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2009, at University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Rev. Claude Fields officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial with military rites will be in Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall. Pallbearers will be Dwayne Campbell, Terry Phegley, Scott Smith, Mike Hirt, Rusty Ballowe and Robbie Ballowe. Honorary pallbearers will be Gary Dwayne Griffitt, Pat Goldsworth, Chris Rogers, Tom Butner, Nick Schaefer, Richard Filkins and Jim Amos. Memorials may be made to family choice. Born Jan. 5, 1945, in Slater, he was the son of the late Dale B. Griffitt and Goldena Bridges Griffitt, who survives of Marshall. On Aug. 17, 1968, he married Victoria Lynn Campbell, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a truck driver for over 40 years, driving for Hogan Transportation most recently. He attended Marshall Baptist Temple.
Additional survivors include two daughters, Angela Smith and her husband, Scott, of Topeka, Kan., and Candy Phegley and her husband, Terry, of rural Marshall; one son, Gary Dwayne Griffitt and his wife, Robyn, of Marshall; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Gay Rooks of Lee's Summit and Shirley Finch of Windsor; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one nephew, Mark Rooks.
