Adventures in Libraryland: Marshall library to offer help with computer skills

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Thursday, Oct. 1, starts a new month and a new year for the library. We are all feeling energized about our birthday year and the upcoming events.

In October, we are offering a special program on Tuesday evenings. Need some help with computer tasks such as setting up an email account, creating a resume, Internet research or simply learning how to operate the mouse? Join us for Tuesday Tech Time from 5 to 7 p.m. for personal tutoring.

Patrons will be assisted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Don't forget that October also brings free interlibrary loans for patrons -- limited to three at a time per person.

And keep a look out for our new Speed Reads titles coming soon!

Check it out
Join us for the following storytimes: Wee Ones Lapsit on Wednesdays at 10:45 a.m., Storytime Super on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Wee Ones Lapsit is for babies from birth to 3 years old and Storytime Super is for preschool through second grade.

MPL Book Clubs (led by Melanie Campbell)
You've heard the old adage, "Go West Young Man" -- well everyone is invited to travel west by southwest this month at the Marshall Public Library.

Mark your calendars for the October 26th roundup at the Marshall Public Library. Two rules though: 1. No guns allowed (Sheriff). 2. Keep your spurs off the furniture (Library Lady).

Meander to the library meeting room at 5:30, for a supper of chili while joining the Page Turners book group in discussing the works of Louis L'Amour. Marvin Wilhite will display a collection of published works by L'Amour that you won't find in any library this side of the Mississippi.

The Night Writers -- that's writers, not riders folks -- will be joining us at 6:30 to read original excerpts with a Western or Southwestern theme. Newcomers and greenhorns welcomed. If'n you are on the shy side, we have readers available so you can hear your own work; or you can just come sit a spell and give a listen.

There will be the coveted Western Boot Prize for the best piece of writing with Western garb so travel on in to the Marshall Public Library for some jawin', readin', writin', smackin' good chili and enjoy a taste of the west.
