Woods pleaded guilty in January to class D felony driving without a license and was given a five-year term of probation in exchange for the guilty plea.
But in June, Woods was charged with class A felony assault in the first degree with serious physical injury and the unclassified felony of armed criminal action, bringing on the probation violation charge.
In the assault case, Saline County Prosecuting Attorney Donald G. Stouffer charged Woods assaulted a man from behind with a baseball bat, hitting him several times on the back of the head, causing severe injuries, including "a laceration approximately four inches in length on the subject's head, about three inches above his right ear," and another laceration above his left ear, according to the probable cause statement.
The victim also had an abrasion about 12 inches long and two inches wide on his back.
When questioned about the June attack, the report says, Woods said the defendant "wasn't threatening me," but said he was concerned for the safety of children who were in a house the victim tried to enter.
In court Monday, a trial date was set for Jan. 21, 2010, in the assault case.
If convicted of those charges, Woods could be sentenced to 10 to 30 years or life in Missouri Department of Corrections on the assault charge and not less than three years in DOC on the armed criminal action charge.
Woods' criminal record includes two convictions for assault and one for endangering the welfare of a child.
