Michael Steven Arnold, 54, of Sedalia, died Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, at his home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 2 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Sedalia, with Rev. Donald Allcorn officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake Arnold, Al Kindle, Jason Kindle, Gregory Maples, Phillip Mefford and Ronnie Spicer. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Butler and Donald Spicer. The family suggests memorials to Bill G. Arnold Scholarship Fund in care of Sedalia School District 200 or McLaughlin Funeral Chapel. He was born April 30, 1955, the son of Bill G. and Barbara (Brown) Arnold. He was raised and educated in Sedalia, graduating from Smith-Cotton High School in the class of 1973, where he played baseball and football. He attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas. His career was in sales, working over the years with his brother, Terry Arnold, and his brother-in-law, Mark Maples. He managed Central States Tool Engine & Equipment Company. He was baptized at First Christian Church, and assumed many leadership positions in the church, serving a term as president of the church board. He was a past member of Rotary Club, an active member of Sedalia Lodge 236 AF & AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Kansas City. He was a 32nd degree. He was a man of many interests, ranging from sports to cooking and gardening. He raised tomatoes, always giving them away to friends. He was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. He also enjoyed football, bowling and spending time at the lake. He did landscaping, and several years ago he constructed a Japanese garden for friends in Marshall.
He is survived by one son, Ryan William Arnold and Kitty Lee of Sedalia; one grandson, Tyler Belou Arnold of Sedalia; his mother, Barbara Arnold Sabin and her husband, Bob, of Sedalia; one brother, Terry Arnold and his wife, Kimi, of Sedalia; one uncle, Ted Brown of Aurora, Colo.; three nephews, William Blake Arnold, Gregory Maples and Nathan Mefford; and four nieces, Tarah Leigh Arnold, Mindy Beebe and her husband, Mike, Michaelyn Hutlzer and Emily Amahaud; and his dog, Tootsie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bill G. Arnold, who died Sept. 8, 1984; and his grandparents, Ted and Marjorie Brown and William and May Arnold.
