County commission finishes bridge project, approves employee changes

Wednesday, September 30, 2009

Saline County Commissioners announced Wednesday, Sept. 30, that bridge work on Harvest Avenue is now completed.

Commissioners will meet with bridge engineers Shafer, Klein and Warren to complete final paperwork later on Wednesday.

In their meeting Tuesday, Sept. 29, Commissioners approved two employee-related transactions.

Commissioners agreed to raise the hourly wage of Jessica Adcock, of the assessor's office, from $8 to $8.50. Adcock is a part-time employee.

Dennis Nolte of Blackburn will join the common road district staff. He will be a part-time employee, earning $11 per hour.

Also at the meeting, Southern District Commissioner Richard "Dick" Hassler reported on a workforce development retreat he attended over the weekend.

Hassler said Julie Gibson, the director of the state Division of Workforce Development, was present at the meeting.

"She was there to speak to us and tell us about her vision of career centers," he said. That vision includes cross-training employees at the centers.

Hassler said another part of the retreat was developing five-year plans.

Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner spoke briefly about the Santa Fe Trail Symposium, held in Arrow Rock. Plattner gave remarks at the opening of the conference.

"It was a nice group of people," she said. "I think the history there was well worth the acknowledgement."

Northern District Commissioner Norvelle "Brownie" Brown was also present at the meeting.

Commissioners will meet again Thursday, Oct. 1, at 9 a.m. in the lower level of the courthouse.
