Marshall native Lorin Price was the big winner at the annual Homemade Pie Contest, part of Missouri State Corn Husking Competition and festival.

Price was awarded first place in the crust category with her triple-berry pie, and her lemon meringue pie took first in the meringue category.

Other winners at the contest were Blayne Vogel, second place, and Karen Johnson, third place, in the crust category. Velda Galloway and Patsy Dorrell came in second and third place, respectively, in the meringue category.

A total of 17 pies were entered in the contest, and all were auctioned off after the awards were given.

No pie brought less than $25, and three pies tied for the highest bid at $100.

In all, $1,110 was raised, though that doesn't include the sale of pie slices for $2 each after the auction.
