Newscope: Marshall Pumpkin Festival cancelled; Planning for next year begins

Thursday, September 24, 2009
The first Marshall Pumpkin Festival, which was scheduled for Oct. 9 and 10, has been cancelled for this year, members of the Downtown Marshall Association said Wednesday, Sept. 23.

The festival was part of DMA's attempt to draw people to the downtown area, and revitalize downtown as a whole.

"The Downtown Marshall Association will be postponing the Pumpkin Festival until October of next year," said DMA member Amy Crump. "We are actively looking for volunteers for next year's event."

Crump said the organization hopes to hold the event on the Marshall square next year when courthouse renovations will be done.

Anyone who is interested in helping can contact Crump at aj_crump@sbcglobal.net.

The postponement was due in part to the cost of obtaining insurance for the event, DMA members said.

This is why nothing fun will ever be done in Marshall. For good fall festivals Slater and Higginsville are the place to be!

Response by Eric Crump/Editor:
The pumpkin festival will be held next year when there's more time to lay the groundwork for it.
