Harold F. Shepard, 81, passed away at home Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.
Cremation. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date with burial of cremains in Gilliam.
He was born March 2, 1928, to Jesse and Hattie (Jackson) Shepard. He was the seventh of seven children. He grew up in Gilliam and graduated from Slater High School. He then moved to Kansas City, where he met his wife of 56 years, Helen Wallace. They were married in 1953 and had three sons, Karl, Kent and Keith. He worked as a machinist for more than 34 years at a U.S. Army ammunition plant. He was a past member of the MO-KAN Antique Power Assn., a member of The Ozark Lakers Square Dance Club in Laurie, as well as a 50-year member of Cambridge Lodge 63 of Slater. After retiring, he and Helen moved to Cape Coral, Fla., where he enjoyed planting trees and watching the world go by from his lawn chair in the garage. His quick wit and sense of humor always kept you going.
He leaves to remember him his wife, Helen, of Cape Coral, Fla.; his two sons, Karl and his wife, Suzzette, of Orlando, Fla., and Keith and his wife, Cindy, of Kansas City; his sister, Gertrude McGinness of Lake Crystal, Minn.; and his beloved pet, Misty.
He was preceded in death by his son, Kent.
