Harold F. Shepard, 81, passed away at home Friday, Sept. 18, 2009.

Cremation. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at a later date with burial of cremains in Gilliam.

He was born March 2, 1928, to Jesse and Hattie (Jackson) Shepard. He was the seventh of seven children. He grew up in Gilliam and graduated from Slater High School. He then moved to Kansas City, where he met his wife of 56 years, Helen Wallace. They were married in 1953 and had three sons, Karl, Kent and Keith. He worked as a machinist for more than 34 years at a U.S. Army ammunition plant. After retiring, he and Helen moved to Cape Coral, Fla., where he enjoyed planting trees and watching the world go by from his lawn chair in the garage. His quick wit and sense of humor always kept you going.
