Lloyd Dee "L.D." Simmons, 82, of Sweet Springs, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Liberty Hospital in Liberty.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Blue Lick Cemetery south of Marshall. Memorials may be made to Blue Lick Cemetery. Born July 3, 1927, in LaMonte, he was the son of the late Ramey Simmons and Nora Rae Simmons. On June 23, 1945, he married Elsie Alexander, who survives of the home. He had lived in Saline County most of his life and was a retired carpenter and farmer. He was of the Christian faith.
Additional survivors include his six children, Joyce Pannell of Marshall, Carol Smithey Oglesby of Waveland, Miss., Darlene Rafferty of Stet, Sharon Thurman of Marshall, Diana Hampton of Sedalia and Judy Carpenter of Stet; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Hall of Sedalia; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Simmons, and seven sisters, Mildred Simmons, Delia Elwell, Faye Tucker, Virgie Elwell, Dorothy Betchel, Opal Perriguey and Wynonnia Gray.
