Pint-sized halfback Collin Werths, a 5-foot-7, 137-pound sophomore, was a dynamo for the Orioles with 104 rushing yards -- 112 yards on five pass receptions and two touchdowns. He ran in from 9 yards out in the first quarter and took junior Kent Schuette's flat pass 51-yards late in the second period.
Concordia (3-1, 2-0 I-70) couldn't add to its 14-0 halftime lead until the fourth quarter, which began with a 3-yard Schuette keeper for a score. It didn't matter, since the Greyhounds were held to 11 rushing yards and had three passes intercepted during the game.
"Our defense played fairly well, but it was on the field three-quarters of the game," remarked Sweet Springs head coach Tim Smith. "Our offense is killing our defense."
The 'Hounds (1-3, 1-3) host a Santa Fe club which has struggled on both sides of the ball Friday.
