Billy Wayne "Bill" Steed, 71, of Marshall, died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2009, at Marshall Baptist Temple, with Rev. Claude Fields officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Burial with military rites will be in Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall. Born June 18, 1938, in Bradford, Ark., he was the son of the late James Clarence Steed and Edna Burkett Steed. On Sept. 22, 1959, he married Fay Treece, who survives of the home. He had lived in Marshall since 1968, moving from Newport, Ark., and was owner and operator of a trucking company. He was a member of Marshall Baptist Temple. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Vietnam, and a member of Malta Bend American Legion Post 558.
Additional survivors include one daughter, Linda Dianne Gilmore and her husband, Mike, of Marshall; two sons, James Gregory Steed and his wife, Heather, of West Memphis, Ark., and Jeffery Wayne Steed of Marshall; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; one sister, Laveda Steed of Bradford; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Margaret Clouse.
