Edna Pearl Schelp, 94, of Sweet Springs, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at The Lutheran Nursing Home in Concordia.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Sweet Springs, with Rev. Dan Wing officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are suggested to Immanuel Lutheran Church or The Lutheran Hour in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Born Dec. 4, 1914, in Sweet Springs, she was the daughter of the late Leo Oerding and Sophie Krause Oerding. She attended Holy Cross Lutheran School. On Jan. 22, 1937, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Emma, she married Harvey Schelp, who preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2006. She lived in Sweet Springs most of her life where she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. After her marriage, Edna Pearl was employed at International Shoe Factory in Sweet Springs and then at Remington Arms in Lake City, which she retired from in December 1976 after 22 years of service.
Survivors include one son, Douglas Schelp of Irving, Texas; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Glen Oerding of Warsaw; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one son, Neal; four sisters, Esther, Agnes, Elsie and Luella; and two brothers, Hugo and Lambert.
