The Marshall chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution wants to make sure town residents know the history of this governing document, and is promoting the week in several ways, Regent Elaine Osborn said.
On Monday, Sept. 14, Marshall Mayor Connie Latimer signed a proclamation celebrating the event and asking "citizens to reaffirm the ideals of the Framers of the constitution had in 1787 by vigilantly protecting the freedoms guaranteed to us through this guardian of our liberties."
DAR is displaying Constitution-related materials in Marshall Public Library and at Square Corner. The ladies have also provided Marshall High School, St. Peter School, Malta Bend School and Miami School with information, including quizzes and games, about the Constitution.
These are designed to "get students involved in learning about how the United States government was formed," Osborn said in a press release.
In addition, DAR will celebrate the Constitution's "birthday" on Thursday, Sept. 17 in two ways. At 3 p.m., the ladies ask that "everyone will ring a bell or make some kind of noise" to commemorate the event. And, DAR will host a birthday party for the Constitution in conjunction with the library's Family Fun Night on Thursday, Sept. 17, at 5:30 p.m.
