Slater softball: Westran 12, Slater 2

HUNTSVILLE -- Westran scored nine runs in the bottom of the fourth inning Tuesday to hand the Slater softball team a 12-2, five-frame loss.

All nine runs were unearned, the Lady Hornets (3-11, 1-2 L&C) benefitting from three two-out errors after loading the bases and then getting four straight RBI singles. Junior Sam Gwinner had three hits and knocked in two runs to lead Westran.

The Lady Wildcats scored on senior Hannah Doherty's double in the fourth and on a grounder in the fifth after junior Saria Leimkuehler led off the inning with a single.

Slater (2-5, 0-3) plays a non-conference game Friday at Glasgow.
