John W. Ballew, 82 of Marshall, died Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at The Living Center in Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Sunset Gardens Cemetery in Marshall, with Rev. Steve Raglin officiating. Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Born March 18, 1927, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Charles Spencer Ballew and Sarah Frances Finley Ballew. On April 9, 1946, he married Margaret Surber. In 1987, he married Shirley Pickett, who preceded him in death on July 18, 2000. He was a retired custodian, having worked for 32 years at Parkway High School in St. Charles, and he also worked for Missouri Valley College. He was a member of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Bakert of Marshall and Sharon Anderson of Iron Mountain, Mich.; one son, Jack Ballew of Marshall; nine grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; several stepchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Swan of Mineola, Texas, and Beulah Robbins of Marshall; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Ballew; one brother, Charles William Ballew; and one sister, Minnie Alice Ballew.
