Wells (20:44) improved her time by 35 seconds on the course, having come in 10th a year ago, but ran 15 seconds behind Kearney sophomore Jasmine Edwards -- who had run ahead of Wells by eight seconds in the 2008 MSHSAA Class 3 Championships.
Edwards led the Lady Bulldogs, second in the state last year, to a dominating victory with 20 points -- beating North Kansas City (67 points) and the third-place Lady Owls (103), who were sixth last year.
Sophomore Arozo Shahabzada (23:01) knocked 57 seconds off her previous course time to place 18th, sophomore Lauren McGrath (23:11) was 21st and junior Stormy Morrison (23:24) 23rd -- all claiming medals. Junior Katie Arends (27:44) and senior Emily Adams (29:49) finished well back of the pack, but both improved their times on the course.
The Marshall boys, fourth last year, were eighth out of 11 teams with 184 points -- St. Pius X (78) of Kansas City winning the title by a mere four points over NKC.
Junior Nick Jenkins (19:28) was the Owls' lone medalist, placing 13th. The teams other scorers -- senior Henry Yeagle (20:36), junior Bryson Fergison (20:59), senior Keeper Kays (21:21) and junior Jeremy Jalilvand (21:35) -- came in between the 41st and 54th positions.
Marshall will race again Friday at the University of Central Missouri Mule Run in Warrensburg.

It would be nice to see pictures to go along with these stories Chris. It has been awhile since the girls team has brought home a team anything! It would have been nice to also see a emphasis on this in stead of on the Kearney girls team. Do you ever follow the teams and take pictures outside of Marshall??? If you don't I suggest you do. When you write a story and add a picture that is a year old to go along with it, it loses a lot of interest. Also, why not any information on the JV teams and the first year runners??? They were also involved in the meet. They ARE part of the team and DO matter!
